Good to know

What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is between 3:00 and 9:00 pm; check-out is by 11:00 am. Agne, your host, sends arrival details before your stay. Note that there are stairs up to the flat.
Is it good for families with children?
Yes. There's a cot for little ones, a kids' pool, and the flat sleeps up to four. La Mata's long sandy beach is a flat, easy walk away.
How far is the beach?
Torre Blanca beach is about a 5-minute walk, and La Mata's long sandy beach (some 3 km of open sand) is roughly 500 m, about 8 minutes on foot. Shops are even closer.
What shops and services are nearby?
Plenty, and most within a short walk. A 24-hour shop sits right on the corner, and within about 10 minutes on foot you'll find a Mercadona supermarket, an Aldi, a Rossmann health and beauty shop and a JYSK home store, plus bazaar and euro-bargain shops. A pharmacy, cafés and restaurants are close by, and Torrevieja University Hospital is about 15 minutes away by car.
What's the weather like?
Torre la Mata has a mild Mediterranean climate with around 300 days of sunshine a year, and the sea and salt lakes keep it temperate: summers are warm rather than harsh, and winters stay gentle. Daytime highs run around 30 °C at the height of summer, and through the mild season about 20 °C in November, 17 °C in December, January and February, 19 °C in March and 21 °C in April. The sea is around 15-19 °C in the cooler months. The flat has heating for the cooler evenings, so it stays cosy and comfortable through the off-season, an easy base for a longer winter stay.
What's special about the salt lakes?
Torre la Mata sits beside two protected salt lakes, including Torrevieja's famous Laguna Rosa, the Pink Lagoon. Its water glows a vivid pink from salt-loving microalgae (Dunaliella salina) and bacteria that thrive in the briny water, brightest in the warm months. The lakes give the area clean, salt-rich air and a rare microclimate long said to be good for the heart, for breathing (asthma and other respiratory complaints) and for the skin and joints. It's a calm, healthy setting right beside a nature park.
Are there parks and walking trails nearby?
Yes, plenty. There are green spaces nearby like the Parque Aromático, and for longer walks the Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja nature park begins about 2 km away (a 20-minute walk or short cycle), with flat, easy trails around the salt lakes and lots of birdlife, including flamingos, and paths leading toward the pink lake. A seafront promenade also runs for kilometres past La Mata beach, perfect for walking, running or cycling.
Is there parking?
Yes: free street parking nearby, and a bus stop with a direct line to Torrevieja just 100 m from the building.
